the cat is out of the bag - Have you checked the new New Zealand surf guide on this coast? Volumes of material, and this site just says "spot 1". For those who know, it was only a matter of time, "one of the worlds best left points" etc etc. When they gonna build a road to all the points, not just the first one or two?

Trip to NZ - Just about any snowboarding you find will be on the south island - and I mean south, near Queenstown the best. Mt Ruapehu on the north does have boarding, but not very good in my opinion. Surfing on the other hand is great on the north island, especially the west coast near Raglan and Hamilton, and Piha up west of the big smoke. You won't find much of anything in surf on the south island unless you're invulnerable to the cold. Water is FREEZING! Best of luck on your trip...

planning a surf trip to nwe zealand!?! - hi! we are two norwegian girls planning a 1 mounth trip to new zealand.. we would like to do loads of snowbaording and surfing.. could anyone helps us out? would it be best for us to go to the north island or the south island?

some people cant read the weather. - when it comes to getting world class waves then you go to the equator but for consistant good waves with long rides then this is your place. how often does it break? well its a case of reading the right swell size, wind and local reaction to visitors who paddel inside! this place has a lot of long peeling lefts when the swells up, more ride time then J Bay i would say (1.4 to 2.5km rides)but does not offer that many tubes to the backhand rider. but this is made up by the jelly legs from countless turns. the locals are good crew like most people but the swells come and go like you will and they wait far longer then you do to catch the next Bomb! wait and be respectfull, you may get the seaky tubes sesions when the sands just right and you dont tell anyone about it do you?.

to the last guy - don't worry bra... no-one wants to surf your crappy little waves anyway
lots of very small sloppy weak waves that rarely break on the East Coast, and besides Shippies which is very fickle, not much on the west either.
The one piece of Shippies is called Supertubes... ha ha , obviously the guy who named it has never seen the real thing in J.Bay.
Shippies is the only Regional Classic, but is not worth the expensive flight to N.Z. to experience.... soooo many better places to surf in the world.
