MataPalo Locals - Its all about respect!!! Being that so simple to do..Gringos, most of them, think they own the universe. Disrepect the place..dare you all!!!!
De Anonymous , 27-12-2007
At least we know where the kooks live - Sounds like its great if the 'locals' stay there, hope they get some good crews of brazillians coming to surf there too
De Kook Patrol , 25-01-2007

Scott from Fla - Scott from Florida,Maybe you got dings in your boards because you suck at surfing ! Stay in Florida, where it's apparent that the waves are epic. Sorry that Costa Rica doesn't have the same "quality" as Florida! Idiot. Also, anonymous - I'm pretty sure no one paddle out w/ a big knife in their mouth. kinda makes it difficult to duck dive, even in small, mushy waves.

true - The last post is dead on. Matapalo is great and empty except for a couple of eco tourists. Who ever posted all that negative stuff is trying to keep it empty. It's really worth checking out though. The guy who is pretending to be a Tico with the Machete is probably some kook from huntington who lives in that hippy hostel a ways down the road. Most ticos are friendly and don't speak totally broken spanish like this dude would have you beleive. Go down, be respectful, rip up the waves, have fun.

Full on FIVE STARS - A bunch of B.S. the place pumps and their is no one there except all the surf industry people. Thats why you never see any articles on it, they don't shit in there own back yard. Camp any where on the beach for free. Pan Dulce is just as good as Pavones but mellower, with 3 other breaks nearby. Don't be fooled they'll do a magazine article on your spot but not theirs. Get it good while everybody is fooled.

Matapalo locals - I went to Matapalo with three of my friends and we just wanted to surf a few waves and have a good time , but as soon as we got in the water and in to our first session the locals there were CRAZY . One Tico guy paddled out with a Machete in HIS MOUTH and started swinging it around threatening us that we should respect his spot and only travel by ourselves and not come here in groups ( in pretty good english too) then he said we should just go back to babylon where we were from. We went in to figure out what to do and then we were surprised to find a window broken out in our car with some of our stuff stolen. I will never go there again.
