Monterico to Paredon - The profile of the beach is very steep form high tide to low tide making a strong rip tide especialty when high to low tide. The waves are typically 4-8' with or without a breeze but the waves break close to the beach with a nice barrel but without much flow to them because of the constant rip tide effect.

Not for surf - Hi, I know the Guatemala coast and Monterrico not is good for surf, is very dificult that you can find one day in aceptable conditions, normaly is very closed, for that there are not surfers there.

not much - Beautiful country, beautiful people, great food. Wonderful place to visit, and it may actually break, but I saw nothing that was surfable and I checked out Hawaii, and Montericco. There may be other breaks, I just didn't see this one, or notice any potential, the sand drops off steep and the tides move little. Again, go visit, but don't bother carrying your board with you, bring your hiking boots...

i agree, not worth it - came here on honeymoon, early august, was hoping to get a couple of days surfing in but nowhere to hire boards, apart from a few guys travelling to costa rica who were funding their trip, i think, by hiring a battered old foam board wrapped up in gaffer tape(no grip) for $20 a day, CHEAP, NOT. oh and it also had no leash!!! Waves close out too much but seemed good at certain stages of tide. Would advise trying maybe el paredon where you can at least get hold of a board.

worst waves ever - i´travelling north i got started in costa rica and surfed nica and el salva (grate waves surper cheap everywhere) guatemala is crap waves and expensive hostels, today in the mornig i almost went nuts when i had to pay and tip BEFORE getting my breakfast, when i sayd that i usually tip when the food is good and waiters are gentle, she told me that here everywhere is like that, take it or go....i´ll go and so soon as possible

Not worth it... - Close-out waves breaking super close to the beach
De kris , 13-09-2004
monterico - Maybe not worlds best wave , but when you go out in the morning (6 ) you can have some nice ones and you will have ocean just for yourself
De anonymous , 02-08-2004
Dont bother - Is not exactly worth the hassle getting there, the scenery is bleak and the waves arent particuarly surfable - usually a fat closeout - all in all guatemala is not worth surfing.. there is far, far better waves in central america
