traveler - i'll be in the Gironde this weekend with no plans but to get a board and a suit and shred. ... where should i go to rent, buy, or borrow?

Uncrowded peaks à la Girondaine - If you don't mind a good walk along the beach, you can almost always find an empty peak along the pristine coastline the Gironde departement has to offer... except Lacanau (both in terms of empty as well as pristine). Summers (esp. July-August) are great for beginners but too crowded and too small/inconsistent for experienced surfers. September to October/November (ideal) and March/April-June (colder) will be your best bets, as Winter is (arguably) too cold and often to windy/closed-out to be worth your (presumably) hard-earned buck$!
This coastline is beautiful, uncrowded and pure. Treat it with respect!
p.s.: (in summer) if u wanna party AND surf head for Lacanau. It will get crowded though...

Good places to stay - Hey, there is a lot of good places to stay around.. but only alive in Summer!From North to South, Soulac, Montalivet, Hourtin, Carcans Lacanau, Cap Ferret.. Bordeaux is one hour from spots like Porge or Lacanau and It is really worth a visit!

Le Porge Bordeaux, France - went down to Le Porge with my family, to taste the wine and to teach the kids to surf. Le Porge is the closest beach from Bordeaux. This wave can get some very good swell, but its also a good beginners wave. The surf school we put the kids in was fantastic, they get a weeks lessons with a very nice professional instructor. you can just drop me an email if you want any info.
