LOVE YOUR BEACH CAMPAIGN - PORTBALLINTRAE - CALLING ALL NORTHERN IRELAND WAVERIDERS Surfers Against Sewage’s (SAS) ‘Love Your Beach’ campaign is focusing on improving the water quality at Portballintrae's Runkerry Strand in Northern Ireland, by winning first time 'EU bathing water' designation. Throughout the summer, beaches designated as bathing waters benefit from weekly water quality testing, improved litter management and better safety facilities that help the public better enjoy their time spent at the beach. Portballintrae currently has antiquated sewerage infrastructures, which see the beach routinely suffer from poor water quality. If we can persuade the Department of Environment (DOE) for Northern Ireland that enough people use the beach for bathing and recreation to get it designated, then we can help improve water quality for all water users. So, to help us in our lobbying of the Department of Environment, we'd like you to sign our online petition. We'll present the signatures to the key decision makers at the end of the bathing season and crucially before the Government decides on the future of the beaches. If you use Portballintrae's Runkerry Strand sign the petition here http://www.sas.org.uk/pr/2009/love-your-beach-4.php It would be great if you could share this information with other people

dead sheep at Portballintrae - The sheep may have drowned in the river Bush, or fallen in further around the coast. And please don't call Portballintrae 'PBT'. It's a break, not an airport.

The Farmer Is A Disgrace - Just surfed PBT. 3 dead sheep on the beach. The farmer is throwing dead animals into the river when there's been a hell storm. One popped up beside wee Jim in the water yesterday. There was a reporter their so lets hope this dirty git gets some action taken against him. Nothing worse than a sweet session and then walking up the beach and nearly standing on a sheeps stomache. It was D----SCUS----TING.

- Does any1 know of any breaks further round than Ballycastle? Can the swell wrap round to the east coast???
De anonymous , 07-11-2005
6th nov - did any1 see the size!the beach was well over double overhead and to the west of the beach there was a huge reef breaking, spitting and throwing a huge barral!

PBT - PBT can get good. The water is nasty, I mean real dirty. Yeah, we all know about the harmless colour, but what about the dead sheep, and foamy farmer effluent stuff? I know at least 3 people who have had gastro from surfing here. N. Ireland is the only part of the UK where we pump raw sewage into the sea....it's a disgrace!

Visiting NI - My Dad and I are coming to Ballymena sometime between the end of June or early July to look up some relatives. Are there any shops along the Northeast coast that rent boards if there happens to be swell when I'm there, or will somebody loan me a board in return for a few pints at their local drinking establishment? What do surfers wear at this time of year, 3/2, 4/3, boots, gloves? How long of a drive are the decent surfing beaches from Ballymena? How long is it to drive over towards the West coast of Ireland? Is it relatively easy going back and forth from Ireland to Northern Ireland. We'll probably rent a car out of Belfast Airport. Not looking forward to the exchange rate...........damm our weak American Dollar! Thanks for any info. Hoping for some swell, any swell!
