All fun. - Church is, was and always will be a fun spot. If you think you are a hard charging, Island tube guru you are in the wrong place. If longboarders scare you off, good. Just go out with a smile and your speedos and you'll get all the waves you want;-) Goin straight!
De GySgt S.D. Shredder , 24-10-2008
GySgt S.D. Shredder - I was one of the few who was lucky enough to literally call Churches my home break. Myself and a few other core Marine surfers lived in the old mobile home park within walking distance of Church. We always enjoyed catching more waves than most of the longboarders, and watching those guys and their random acts of buffoonery. I'm glad that Uncle Sam owns so much prime coastal real estate. Church's, Point Mugu, DMJ's, etc, etc. It's all mine, ALL MINE!!!! Buwahahaha!!!!! Buwahahaha!!!!!

dont hate on "jar heads" - first and foremost respect every person that risk their lives so you can can surf, wear your bluetooth, and drink your $4.00 cup of starbucks. the marines are cool enough to let us surf there so why should anyone hate on them. I would love to see someone run their mouth off to them. When you surf this place have fun and show some respect these guys dont want to die for their country but the will do so gladly.

Better in winter - grew up surfing here, can get really good on a good sized nw, pretty much the only spot in the area besides uppers that handles nw'er, frustrating for sb'er, way too many lb'ers and definate party wave atmosphere
De beentheredonethat , 06-12-2006
Not hollow - The overview says "hollow fast" wave. This is definitelyNOT hollow. Why do you think there are so many LB's in the water? Decent wave, but SanO is probably better. Butif you've got to go right....Closes out on S SE swells. Most of the Marines are cool...
De Lieutentant Colonel W. , 29-08-2006
Jarhead Local - Yes, there are some hard charging Marines who look like any other kook on any other surf break up the coast. But there are plenty of Marines who grew up on this break (long before '82)and have just as much or more style than half the fat, long-haired, hippie freak, tree-hugging civilians walking up from Old Man's. Churches is a fun break and most people are pretty cool. Don't listen to anyone complaining about the crowds. If you surf in California, you are going to surf in a crowd. That is like saying the pubs are too crowded in Ireland.
De too crowded too bad , 01-08-2006
born too late - first surfed it in '82. on a head high glassy summer day.only a few guys out. Thought i was dreaming warm fun uncrowded. In '82 longboards were out of fashion. Unlike now . My last time out there a couple summers ago ,packed with longboarders AND every other kinda boarder. P.S. jarheads learn to surf here. They're the ones who paddle with the nose of their boards pointing to the sky.

- First off, this wave is called Church. This isn't the best wave of the Trestles stretch, but it still can be a good a wave. The wave is pretty consistent and choked up with old longboarders. If you can't haggle at Lowers, you might as well head here. It is semi-steep right that gets better with some size. If you have a military pass you can drive through the military base and park right in front of the beach. Not a bad deal. See you in the water.
