Dying Sea Lion - Just to clear things up for everyone.

While it is sad to watch a small and innocent animal lose its life, I have to comment that the lifeguard was correct in telling you that it is a felony offense to come within 50 feet of any marine mammal. It is a felony offense for good reason too.

I volunteered for a marine mammal conservation group for several years, right here in Malibu. Our main focus was to rescue sea lions after they had been attacked, injured or fallen ill. After rescuing 45 sea lions, I can tell you that sometimes the best thing to do is nothing. Out of those 45 sea lions, I would say that 10 were released back into the wild. As for the rest, I would say that some died of natural causes and some died because of us.

Sea lions are actually quite fragile creatures who are very adapted to a certain environment. That environment happens to be the ocean, not a crate, or a truck, or an OR, or a tank. As soon as we would enter the presence of an injured sea lion, I could instantly see its reaction to us. Even touching or trying to pick up an injured sea lion causes the creature great distress.

Over the years I have found countless sea lions rotting and trapped in the rocks. It is sad thing to see any creature die, but I have to think that it is just the circle of life.

Please just let these creatures die in a dignified manner.

no concern for wildlife - You would think that Lifeguards would have more heart. I suppose they do in some places regarding animals in distress. But some folks on earth here don't belong in the gene pool with the rest of us.

Life guards are losers - Last Saturday during a nice swell I noticed from the cliff a baby sea lion struggling to get on shore or on top of the rocks. He was totally sick, you can tell from his confusion. After ten minutes of struggeling I climbed down the cliff and pulled him out between the rocks where he was trapped. The fire dept. was of little help and after signaling the life guard wanna be's they said that I shouldn't of touched him and thats a felony offense. A professional photographer named Janice was shooting pics and couldn't believe what the lifeguards were trying to enforce. The protection of these animals is for the assholes who shoot them. No court in the USA would of tried me for saving a distressed animal drowning in the rocky surf. To make a long story short, the sea lion pup was in convulsions and I supposed died hours later of its infection and lack of help. The lifeguard with the red beard and hair is one dick head. I wish this would of taken place near my neck of the woods. We wouldnt let that chump on the beach again.

localism - There is some. I wouldn't even give the pleasure of giving any identifying characteristics of them. But like stated before, Drop in on them again and again and I will guaran-damn-tee he/she won't meet you on the beach to close the deal. And if its a group of'em talking trash, just take pride in the fact they are still too afraid to handle anything on their own. Keep surfing, enjoy the waves and realize that guy yelling at you is still living in Mom's basement or enjoying his studio apartment and ramen noodles.

Roughed Up Today - This place is not safe. Some kid with a couple gold chains and a black dog attacked me here. He had a tattoo of a dragon eating a eagle. Please avoid this place.

NOT L.A. - LA guys... beat it... there is better surf in LA.. Please save the environment and stay closer to your (foreclosed)home (you can make a difference). If you choose to live in LA I feel sorry for you, but don't bring LA up "North". There is no work here anyways. Also if you don't have an 805 area code you have no right to be here. 818 = surf in LA. 805 does not surf in LA. Leave this shitty (sometimes fun)wave to people who pay county taxes here. This is the rules. I did not write them. If you decide to break this rule you wholly acknowledge you are a KOOK and hence by default live in "LA"...

Thank you for your time and cooperation.
