Didnt know about mike. - Didn't know about Mike Manaut, he was cool with a wicked sense of humor, and there all the time and part of the crew. Man, that's sad. Life is short...

China Walls , Point cool Port. people from the dayyzz - john and pau and malia and muffer and megan, keoni and jeff and peter and paul and and tina, jeremy and tara and camilla and jenny, me, mike manaut-(john is always there), jackie S., other mike, nan and lisa and peter, clover patch, chris and nancy, kim mckinz, Bailey, Wendy, mike and malia, April, Kennan and mike and kelly, mike and suzie, , hemeter, Henry kaiser, Chotz., dennis, , bandy's, john br., dolan, , tia and her sis, prosner, mitch, others but forgot names. Man those were the really good days...we had that place to ourselves surf, dive, spear, hobie cat, wave ski, jeremy-whaler water ski before class, firetruck came to put out fire from me and Jer's spagetti O's campfire camping at point lol...epic. This blog brought back a flood of great memories, thanks for putting it up. But for any new people going there be very careful not to get washed against the wall and knocked out and drown, i pulled out a dead guy there last year, that wasn't a good memory. I lately see many people get rescued by surfers so stay safe. This place is beautiful but don't go in unless you got experience getting out up rocks and small day.

Good times - Of course Kile & Scooter, after writing that I thought about all the guys I left out, but like I said, too many people to name them all. And the loss of John Scully was a true tragedy, he was one of the coolest guys I've ever known. Lots of chargers & really good times! lot's of good memories. Unfortunatly we recently lost another local ripper that I forgot to mention, but he was always there & he deserves to be remembered.. - Mike Manaut- RIP-

To:"A piece of history" by anonymous- - You are so so right about everything and everyone you said. Will always remember Pau(may he RIP) as having one of the best backside attacks out there. And Jack S as having "THE BEST" style on any Wall wave! You did leave out alot of names(not me-want to remain anon),but I was there in the whole '80s as well. One name you left out(actually two) which you should have included, because of actually being one of the best guys I've ever seen surf the wall(and this may be you who wrote"A piece of History"),is Kyle Stanford and Scooter.. I learned to surf right by Kyle's house at Pillars, then gradually moved to fingers once I learned how to stand up consistently. Then moved out to Point, which is much safer than Fingers or the Wall. Then I finally got enough balls to try the wall. You don't "catch" the wave out there, it catches you. I used to love sitting out there and picking opi'i(sp?) off the wall and eating it while waiting for sets on inconsistent days.
Is is true they actually have a park there now?? Geez, those were the days when you could just go down there by yourself or with a chick and hang somewhere there in solitude and watch the waves and sunset.

clairify - Name dropping refers to someone who is trying to raise their own social status, my name is not in there. I was just trying to give respect to those who deserve & have earned it. To this self proclaimed "Portlock Mayor" you say you "probably" know half of those names, if you were around back then, you would know all of them.

wall, jaggeds, main point, fingers and six inch - This website cracks me up!!! I surfed here when... I know who... I am a local... let me name drop... fricken shut your pie holes and let the haouliville(haha)take care of the rest(lol) I probably know half of you goofers... It takes care of itself and China's is a whole nother creature we need to keep under check... signed the Portlock Mayor... hahaha... yeah you better hate my 'tude, DUDE!!!

A peice of history - I grew up surfing and hanging out at "The Wall" which is what it's called where the wave breaks along the rocks "China's" is out about 50-75 yards to the West and breaks off a series of coral heads into deeper water. Back in the late 70's - early 80's there were guys that surfed the wall incredibly well- like the late Doug Warren, Pau & John Scully, Jack Sanoda the Neilson brothers, the Fees, Glen Jeans, the Sabate's and all the Sandy Beach crew & Mike Boyer, Who still surf it regularly was & still is one of the best. Too many names to mention. We all grew up in the area and practiclly lived at the wall. I've pulled a lifeless body from the water and seen many terrible injuries- it's not a place to be taken lightly. The waves at China Wall are much safer but the wall is tempting to many people who may not realize the risk they are taking. To any posts from guys who think they own the spot, there is a long history to the place that they may not know about. And nobody owns it - it will be there long after we are all gone.

the wall - been boyboarding at chinas/wall for like 11 years now. started at the point as a grom and worked my way out to the better stuff. it's really not any more dangerous than any other shallow reef...the reef is just to your side instead of under you. getting dragged along the wall definetly sucks though. chinas doesn't really get good until it's like 4-5'+ hawaiian but when it's on it's probably one of the best spots on the hawaii kai side.
