Magic Island - Bomburas - Surfed here from '79 with the Kalihi boys (Frank Silva, Roland, Timmy, Gordon, Winston, even haole Chuck) and hitting it tomorrow. The spots around the area are as follows; straight out from the lagoon is Bomburas (left peak can be a high quality screaming right, west bowl barrels over the sandbar at 4'+). On the right side is the reef sticking up. This is Over Rocks. NOT Over THE Rocks! With a 2'+ tide the right gets hollow, and deep enough, and is quite the show for the people on the wall. The left is hollow too. Good up to 3'. At 4', the action moves to outside Over Rocks and bigger than 5' even further out to Judy's. Guys on this thread have mistakenly called Over Rocks "Islands". It is not! Islands is about 25 yards Ewa of Over Rocks and is fun @ 2-3'. Past that is Americas. Bomburas is the "big boy" spot of the area and the rest, cool places to surf growing up. This is the deal! Ask Chuck who rated Bomburas 5-star! :)

great jumping in off the rocks - have watched many slip and fall, bounce around and come out with bloody scrapes...getting in and getting out was alwasy a matter of timing...never paddeled out from the lagoon. had some great mornings and early evenings at the place in the late 70's
first shark - saw my first shark up close and arms distance away....was 1979....was a real rush but kept on surfing.

islands is a prime spot - islands lefts is sick when it is like 2-4 ft. summertime is gonna be great. awwwwright!
De Chaz , 27-06-2004
Called Bomburas - that is true - I have seen this place surfed by Hurricane Bob and Jamie Ballenger to perfection! I, on the otherhand - look like a professional stuntman when I'm out there and it is big.

Over the what??? - Come on now!! The only people I've heard call it "over the rocks" Are kooks and haoles who don't know any better. So get it straight, brah! It's called Bomburas and Secrets to the left and straight out, and on the outside to the right it's called Judys. On the inside, where the reef sticks out at low tide, its called Islands because the reef looks like little islands when the tide is low.

much more informed local - not that informed... It is called over the rocks, not islands, if you surf there you would know better, but you don't, so don't act like you do.Easy, way more informed
De INFORMED LOCAL , 10-03-2004
Bomburas and Secrets - This spot is called Bomburas and the peak next to it is called Secrets. The very inside part of Magic Island, where the very shallow reef is, is called Islands, because the reef is so shallow at low tide that they look like islands...

no title - It's called Over the Rocks, you mullets. Don't act like you know anything.
