This is a great spot for beginning surfers where peeling waves can easily be caught without much paddling. The bottom is sandy and easy to walk the board out to the breaking area. Because it's protected, the waves rarely get huge, but they have a nice shape and peel nicely when it's breaking well.

The only hazard is sand-fleas, so I sometimes mix Dettol (local antiseptic) in with my sunscreen to keep the sand-fleas from biting so much (thanks to Dan for the tip). Also, this is close to the equator so sun is strong and burns quickly.
