Shell Island itself is usually a great place to check when all the rest of Wrightsville Beach looks like crap. You can usually get an idea of what's happening on Figure Eight by how Shell Island is picking up the swell.

S&P 500 - Shell Island is pretty cool if you like to hang out with a bunch of old guys and talk about stock portfolios and the impact that gasoline prices are having on mutual funds

- hasn't broke good consistently since before hurrican fran '97 when the inlet moved pretty much right next to shell island resort. moving the inlet towards figure eight again hasn't really made the break like it was back in the day.

still going - i dont surf this spot as much as others, because the wind has to be just right, it breaks on many sandbars at any tide. only lines up on a groundswell, but if its thigh high with clean lines at C-street, this place is stomach high and breaking 150 yards right or left depending on which side of the inlet you are on.
