From B/quilla International Airport go towars Santa MArta. PAst Santa Marta keep heading north.
Drive aprox.40 min. until you get to Tayrona NAtural Park. 2 km ast the entrance to cañaveral
there is little restaurant where you can park your car(make sure you arrange with somebody to keep an eye on it...and settle a fee). Across the Restaurant there is hidden "trocha". Walk your way through the jungle, pass the shallow river, keep walking(beautiful walk)....cross the same river when it curves at the end and there you are!
Sometime the river is very dry and you can just follow its curse 'till you find the beach.

 Informações suplementares

there are two main brakes: 1)rivermouth: very nice and powerful barrel sometimes really close to the shore but makeable.Sand bottom. The bigger the better! Easy paddle out with the river's current(not really a river but a "estero"). 2) Pointbreak: this is to the north side of the beach. Brakes with small swells and holds big ones too. This is where the falt rocks are.

Ambiente

This is one of my favorite spots not only for the quality of the waves and its consistency but for the view as well. Green mountain-tops reaching the clouds, caribbean pristine waters and in the morning when the sky is clear you can see the snow up in "La Sierra Nevada" from the ocean...not a comon sight around the globe!Be warned there is nothing in this beach except sand, mosquitoes(can get very bad),sunshine...so bring everything you need. Hamaca, tent, water, wax, ding repair,ETC. This spot won't get crowded and when we think is crowded is beacuse there are 10 guys out. But they all know each other and will be very happy to see a traveler surfer there.
Around the area there are a lot of beach-breaks like "La Caracola", "Arrecife", and Cañaveral among others. If you are unlucky and find it flat(not too often but it happens) you can walk to other empty beaches, climb the cliffs, snorkle...Bringing your girlfriend will be the on of the best things you can do. The night sky turns out to be very romantic and afrodisiac! I will not recomend a foreign surfer to go there without somebody that know the area and eventhough the people of the area are very friendly it's always better to go with somebody that knows the area. If you like you can send me an email and I will hook you up with some good friends of mine that will be glad to show you around.

mark - 'Powerful surf"-- very true. Went swimming here because i didn't have my board, got really worked. Rip tied was hell. But the waves kept coming and coming. Eventually i got washed up onto shore. Couldn't believe this was the Caribbean! wanted to kick myself for not having a board.Wa told by local surfers it's like that all year, and better in winter.Local Colombians here are VERY friendly and honest. But the tourists are sketchy. We camped nearby and didn't have any problems. Though things in the region are starting to get worse (kidnappings). Know the area before going, best be with a local, and you'll be fine!
