Also... - Someone mentioned the rip, which could mar an otherwise perfect day. Also, the opening up of the lagoon, which would turn the sea brown and no doubt attract a few sharks from the Tugela up the road, but when it settled the early morning sessions were awesome. We used to hang out in the caravan park in summer while camping on the beach, pick mussels, fruit and corn and maybe catch a few fish for dinner. I once encountered a shark and later that day the sharksboard hauled in a fat 7'-8' dead shark caught up in the nets, but otherwise no problems. Once after a huge hurricane the sets came pounding through at 8'-10'. They were closing out a bit but a few people out got some awesome rides and some serious hold-downs, but it was a day I'll never forget, Dark, grey and fierce. Well worth checking out from May - July.

Best ever - Zinkwazi used to be my local break in the late seventies and early eighties, I still yearn for a return some day. You said it, when this place works, it heaves. Had some of the best days in my life here. Loooong summer days of super blue swell, camping in the bushes next to the lagoon and waking up to dolphins showing us the way in.

This is no paradise - I recently spent 2 months in Ramsgate South Africa and I am working my way North into Mozambique.I loved that area and had nominal bad experiences with the locals. Thought I would check out Zinwwazi based on the reviews that I read here. I will not make this mistake again. First off, out of the 3 weeks that I was here there was maybe 2 days max that there was anything resembling a decent wave. 2nd, Zinkwazi is basically the biggest bunch of white trash and their dogs that I have ever seen. In the US there are economic barriers that usually work to keep white trash out of what would otherwise be multi million dollar beach front homes. It has made me see a deeper immorality in Aparthied policy that goes beyond racism. Enriching white trash.....I cannot wait to get out of here on Tuesday. Hopefully Mozambique will be a better experience.
