weligama bay view - we styied in weligama feb and march 09. the waves were small and closing out most of the time. the spot is nice for beginners, cos it is a sandy beach and you can walk out all the way to the lineup. the beach is not very clean and full of sandflies. for surfers with some experience, nearby spots like mirissa, plantation, easy left or kabalana are more fun. if you go to weligama, avoid to stay in "bay view" guesthouse. though the place is nice and right in front of the spot, the family running the place is too much after the money and they are not good people. better stay in mirissa. beautiful beach and lots of inviting guesthouses.

Trip planning for febuary - Hi! me and my girlfriend will be there to learn how to surf around 10th of feb. We're looking for a place to rent boards and sleep for cheap... THXS!!

Where to begin... - Weligama is a great spot for beginners and is more and more becoming the base for lessons from surf schools in Unawatuna and Midigama. The beach break allows beginners (with no upper body strength) to walk to the first break and slowly ease to the back break as your confidence increases. A few nice guesthouses right infront of the surf means you can chill out in a hammock, have a cup of tea or some food while waiting for the surf. There tends to be waves here when it is sloppy everywhere else, but the waves are slow so only fun on big days or when you are first starting (and still combatting your reef fears). Another spot in Weligama is near the island but is flat there during season time (Nov-Feb).

brumm turn on the wavefactory!! - best place to travel to! ask for brumm at the bay view just 300m south of downtown weligama right at the surfspot. brumm teaches you to ride the waves, shows you all the places to surf, eat local food, visit the buddas & more.. there is no better place in SL!UUUUUU ;-)

wow - if you wanna start to surfing there is the place, "Weligama". For your children this is the best place with minimum risk to be a world class surfer. In addition to that you must not forgrt to check Villa Orlando and its sea food too.
