- I would very much advise against trying to get access by land to this spot, last guys who tried came back to their car burnt to a crisp. Theres no police down there to go crying to. No Joke, just act as if Albatross doesn't exist and get on with your life. End of Story.

to the guy who wrote the first comment - you said "idiot by local 15 Apr 2005 whoever wrote this obviously knows nothing......why do people insist on lying about spots!???!!!!Try to look at it from a different point of view.. I think the person who made this post is actually a local and is quite cunning in the fact that he is leading people astray.I have heard stories about people getting shot whilst trying to surf here.. I woudnt try it.. ever

More on Albatross Pt. - To whomever said "stuff the Maoris." The Maori issue is one of access more than anything else. There is no road that goes to "Albertross" Point. (What the hell is an "albertross" anyway). You could drive to the end of the road south of Kawhia and then trespass across several hundred meters of private farmland, owned by the Maori you want to stuff. He will probably warn you before he unloads a round of buckshot into your arse. If you really want to try this place, wait for a HUGE swell that is closing out Raglan. That would be about a 4 meter or greater southwest open ocean swell with a long groundswell period. Then, launch a boat from the Manu Bay boatlaunch and head out around Woody Head past Ruapuke and Kawhia beach. Watch out for shoaling 15ft. waves around Gannett Island because that is how far out you will need to be in order to avoid the Kawhia Harbor bar which will have a mishmash of 15ft + grinding, top-to-bottom closeouts breaking all over it. Then approach Albatross Pt. from the West. Time your approach to a lull and haul ass around the tip of the point. There, you will find a grinding left tube breaking at about 6ft. You will also see the local Maori surfing there. That would be one of the longest, bumpiest and most dangerous trips you will ever take in a trailor boat. Those pictures are most definitely not of Albatross Pt. (maybe they are "Albertross" point :). It is a left point. It is gnarly and it is for the most part inaccessable. But hey, go for it.
