English (Traduzir este texto em Português): December thorugh April, go through Samara, then Carrillo. Past Carrillo take the Punta Islita turnoff (don't miss it) and cross the river, best at low tide. Go about a mile until you see the ocean on your right over a cow pasture. Open the wooden gate and drive to beach. In the rainy season the river is usually too high to cross. Try at low tide or go by boat from Samara. Worth the trip
Ambiente
English (Traduzir este texto em Português): Nothing here but surf. This beach is yet to be developed and there are no services near. It's worth the trip however. Samara is only 20 minutes by boat or car and it has everything, good bars, restaurants, hotels, boats for camaronal available. Punta Islita is also close by, small town, hotel, basic services.
Geral
English (Traduzir este texto em Português): Camaronal is almost always good and sometimes great. Holds up to triple overhead. Surfable all day. Sometimes wind or strong currents can make it bad. Rarely there is no swell at all.

Closeout city - The steep shelf here doesnt form good bars for a nice wave. The only time the mushburger barrels is on a closeout. Lots of wind exposure and the currents are a constant battle, not to mention all the debris in the water. Surfed here many times but have never thought it was great. The place is plotted for development too, what a joke. Own a piece of paradise near nothing with an ugly beach that cooks in the black sand. Not to mention you will drown here if you try to swim. Be the first in the office to own a piece of CR for ridiculous prices.

camaronal - My first surf there was a solo session in the early to mid 90's; several feet overhead, strong current, almost all lefts, and beautiful, fun clear blue green waves breaking way outside from the south and reeling, not closing out. Have surfed it several times since and fortunately never under head high. Have had my ass handed to me and surf trunks pulled down to my ankles. On a big (double overhead) swell caution is advised as there can be strong currents and big sets that swing wide and give quite a pounding. Watch the waves , the currents, and any other surfers before entering the water. This place can really mack on a big south compared to other spots within an hour and a half in either direction. Bring plenty of food water and sunscreen and perhaps some shade as it can get hot as an iguanas ass and there are no shade trees near the beach. Camaronal is somewhat remote, so be careful (as in any other place in Latin America) to avoid theivery. Play it safe and have fun.

Real lame - yea most of these comments are bogus lame shit. cameronal is defintly one of the best breaks in guanacaste. it breaks chest to overhead on any average day (plus sets) the outside is mushy at high tide, with a steep hollow inside. its hot as hell and there isnt much shade, bring water food and sunscreen, other than that there is nothing to worry about beside getting a solid swak or two
