Fun Punta Cana Surfing - We stayed at the Hard Rock resort in punta cana and had a really cool surf instructor pick me and a couple buddies up and took us to macao beach. Fun waves for all levels of surfers. Had no worries about leaving valuables in the car when we went surfing. One of the guys with us was first time surfer and he had a great time also with Danilo Fernandez the owner of punta cana surf school. His number is 829-533-1297 or 809-223-4669 and email is puntacanasurfschool@yahoo.com

Surfing Punta Cana - I just got back from Punta Cana. We stayed at the Excellence Resort about 20-30 min from Macao Beach. I called Rafael Ferreras with: EL MACAO SURFADVENTURES macaosurfcamp@gmail.com 809.430.9017 He took care of me and spoke good English. He sent a driver to our resort and picked me up, hooked me up with a board and drove me back just as explained. He has a cool little surf shack with a bunch of fun boards, egg shaped and long boards available. The beach was safe and didn’t have any bad vibes about the place. I didn't need a lesson, just a board and good waves. They do the whole surf school too if you want to learn to surf (there were kids and families there learning). There were a couple good breaks in front of the surf shack and so I just surfed right out front on a sand / rock bottom. The waves were fun and had a nice Left break that I took to the beach several times. The learning section has smaller waves just down the beach. If you want a short board, bring your own. I would probably take my board next time as the resort had about a 6-7 ft peak that was going off in the AM on the first day and was sufable the whole time, but didn’t know that prior to going (its hit or miss on the resorts having waves). It’s getting so expensive to fly with a surfboard these days I can’t stand paying the Rip Off Airlines $300 to bring a board on a trip. They don't rent boards to keep at your hotel, you have to go to their beach but he only charged $60 for the pickup and drop pkg (no lessons) so that was worth it, surf couple days and drink and lounge the rest. Pick your board and go surf!

Punta Cana Surf - If your are going to Punta Cana any time soon you know they are about to get some serious swell right about now. I was there two years ago and surf the south coast at a good little spot. I met some locals and they said when it's good, behind Club Med is the spot. It looks like their going to get it good for the next couple of weeks.

Help ! - Have dreaded 'extended family holiday' in Punta Cana April 19 to 26. Will go nuts if I don't get out of the compound to surf every day. Is there anywhere to rent decent longboards nearby or in Macao ? Thinking of bringing a couple of boards on the charter but airlines keep messing them up. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

fun fun - I surfed Macau the week of Feb. and I had a blast overall.A tall coconut tree lined beach, littered with some trash was a lil depressing at 1st. When it gets chest high or better is alot of fun.It was a crime surfing solo for an hr or 2 in the carib chest/occasional head high while back on Long Island, snowstorm wreaking havoc on jetblue customers. An occasional local or 2 will join in and these guys were way cool.On the wknds, the beach down by the entrance gets crowded with the locals having fun partying. The best spot is in front of a house with a rock sea wall and a dirtroad ascends down just to the left. The taxi from Ocean Blue golf & beach resort was adventure to its own.$30.00 rnd trip and picked me up as planned on time.Pot holed roads that resembled craters, slow big rigs that if ya wanna pass, you better have a rocket booster. No trip was ever the same but none the less ''lol'' an adventure.Keep checkin wannasurf.com,this site was pretty much on the money.Lookin foward to coming back again soon.If all possible,I recommend 2 things: 1- bring 1 board in a pro lite fcs(I brought a 6-6,nat.art) 2- fly delta, didnt get charged for the board either way.Was very surprised!!
