YES, visit Guatemala! - The whole coast of guatemala with it's beach breakes is certainly not the easiest place in the world to learn surfing but the surf at El Paredon is very consistent and there are always some good waves. The place itself is great, also for it's surrounding mangroves and the empty beaches! The best time for beginners is during the dry season, roughly between october/november and march. If you go there you should also have a look at the Paredon Surf House, a very nice little place that opened only a few months ago!

Great experience!! - Hi there, i whent to El Paredon this june 2010 rain season , the waves are bigs normaly in this time of the year, but we had good waves in the high tides, and the atmosphere in the beach was really good. The poeple say that the waves little small come like nov to feb. Bye and good waves!

Waste of Time. - If you are a traveling surfer don't waste your time with this place. The food sucks, the locals suck and most of all the wave sucks. The three local guys who run the camp where down right hostile and between them and their bros they totally locked down the only working peak on the beach. I woke up early one day and wanted to go for a surf before the crowd hit but I couldn't because they had all the boards(and drinking water) locked up in their shack until hours later when they woke up. If your a begginer and you just want to goof off in the whitewash its fine but if your an experienced surfer who would rather not pay around $40 day to get dropped in on avoid this place.

Guatemala - Hi,I will visit guatemala August this year and stay untill january 2008. Any chance to ride some waves over there?During my stay I will work in Antigua and in the weekends go and search for a surf. Does anyone of you know if it's possible to bring your longboard with you in the public transport to the coast? If it's allowed? :)All information is welcome!Surfs up, peace.

- I surfed here for a week and was sad to leave but ill definatley bring my tofino crew(im canadian) down. They got good surf, good food, cool tiki huts on the beach to crash in. The black sand beach extends as far as you can see left and right. If you wanna party at a club stay home. If you wanna surf all day, play a game of soccer(football) on the beach at sunset with the locals, read surf mags in hammoks and have drinks with good peeps then hit this spot.Peace Out

it sucks - dont know why guatemala is proud of their surf...it really sucks and the camp is in middle of nowhere without access to anything if you dont want to spend a day in a bus just to buy you a coke or something....and the food sucks and you cant cook yourself

forgot to sign the guest book... - very mellow little village with some great waves (don't mind the yellow 'ocean custard' in the lineup) and even better food at el paredon (thanks olivia)! next time, i'll stay for a week!http://elparedonsurfcamp.tripod.com/ps: don't travel back to antigua at night in a chicken bus; i witnessed a mugging when i did.
