Too Sketchy Now - OK - here's the deal. I stayed here for 3 winters and into July. The wave gets OK (nothing like Barra or the other E'erly points though) and was a good crowd escape if you didn't mind sitting in a Mosquito played hut when you weren't in the water. part from surf there is NOTHING there and its a hassle to get in or out - a mission, and then you need the locals on your side.....so fluent Spanish. The Islanders police themselves (10 locals / year are sworn in) so its rough justice - behave and keep your head down as you have 10 x more cash than any of them. 18 months ago a very bad crowd blew in from Puerto and theres a bit of a protection racket going down there now by ex-drug guys lying low. 2 x tent loads of Gringo surfers were robbed at gunpoint on the beach last April - everything taken and the guys roughed up.......Im moving on to Panama and Colombia now as its just too sketchy there and crowded everywhere else. Peace and good waves

i don't see what the big deal is - this wave can be ok, but its kind of mushy, and crowded. the sandflies are worse than san blas. dengue is a real threat. i'm not saying don't go, but do take precautions. the mosquitos can kill you here. its not the cheapest place in mex either.

Buenisimo - Chacahua buenisimo buen surf 9 pies tubos y ola muy larga gringos fuera chacahua para sudamerica
De bellybouncer , 11-11-2009
nice place - We had great waves there. Seemed to be lots of gringos staying at one of the cabanas. Was super cool swimming with the Nyabinbi Mexi kids in the lagoon. (Apparently, shipwrecked slaves that settled there and crossbred with the natives) Current was strong. During wet season the aligators (cayman, crocs, whatever) float out into the lineup.

waves in december/january - i surfed the chaca rightpoint in march/april and it was pretty nice but how does it look s in dec/jan?
De Anonymous , 20-07-2009
gringos beware - Only come here if you are with some native speaking mexicans otherwise the locals will take you for a ride. The wave gets decent but like below you cant compete with the locals when theyre out which is all the time because none of them have real jobs. Paulito is sketchy, he was talking shit about us unbeknown we could understand the general gist. Or maybe he didnt care? Cool place, bulk weed but again only come with locals or a machete and dont take anything of value. If you are coming with just yourself and gringo mates think about staying somewhere else. Other than that it is still a truely magical place which feels more like tradicional mexico than anywhere else.
De clackerboy , 27-08-2008
pants - An average wave at best, crowded and the chances of getting a wave when the locals are out are about zero. Don´t waste your time making the journey to sit on a beach for two weeks like I did and surf sub-standard waves when Barra or Roca Blanca are so close.

Chacahua safety - Man dont take anything to Chacahua that you value. There are no police out there, just 400 locals with nothing who are totally isolated from Mexico. They even control when you leave and arrive.....there is 1 small boat, family owned. We took a hut on the beach and all our gear was stolen when we surfed and then NO-ONE would help us out !!! They were all in on the scams...this happened to many surfers there. The wave is mushy and sections in 9 out of 10 swells and the current from the lagoon is horrendous !!! The locals from Puerto even don't go there. Barra is WAY better
De Anonymous , 09-07-2008
barra is better - long waits,rip offs,hasseling locals.didnt score,straight back to barra..
De matp , 31-10-2007
"paulito" - ask Paulito how he got the scar on his chest. It was by a hawaiian sling (fish spear) from me when he attacked me and my wife with a machete He hates gringos beware when he's drunk
