The real deal on Ambleside - Here is some correct info on Ambleside. The best spot is slightly 'lookers' left of the park, closer to the bridge. The bottom is reef/rock, not sand, and it is fully exposed during low tide, and not surfable. It is sharp as sh!t and hurts to stand on even with booties. Its not for everyone, especially not beginners. Frequency says often, but this is wrong as Ambleside breaks only in wintertime with a very strong WSW wind swell, and almost doubles up when tankers pass. The wave has some pitch to it and a board over 8'6" would be difficult to ride here. Side note: it is colder than the coast as its near a river that is just glacial runoff (especially as it really only works in winter). There can be a current in the inlet as well, but its not bad. Seriously, this wave is super rare, and has a sharp bottom. Advanced only, but it can be awesome, and definitely beats the ferry ride, given it is going off.
