dont underestimate or undergun - it is fickle but i saw a barrel that you could drive a school bus through. thought the guy riding it was trying to commit suicide but then i realized it was blake. had me super pumped just watching it from the jetty.

- I agree with the last post and just add that this is sort of a deep water beach break with lots of parallel sand bars and troughs (similar to Ocean Beach in SF but not quite)--that means more power, lots of soup on the inside = tougher paddling than the breaks you are probably used to, and a lot of visible and sometimes aggressive marine life in the lineup (obviously the last thing also has to do with being near the mouth of the bay--bait fish, salmon, seals, sea lions, sharks--but sharks and other animals also like to cruise the troughs of these kinds of bottoms). Also, there can be very strong rips and longshore current here and they change frequently. This is not a safe place (or even a doable place, paddling-wise) for beginners unless it's small (under head high). Otherwise, if you don't mind the soup and the shark-vibe, it has some great days as well as some sloppy ones. I also highly recommend that beginners completely avoid the Jetty. It's an easy paddle with the rip along the rocks and the vibe is overhyped unless its a really good day, BUT there's a very narrow takeoff zone (trust me, you won't have the right of way or skill to outcompete the regulars) and the wave attracts mostly intermediate and better surfers and they don't want people kooking out there, ditching their boards, paddling through the face, etc.

Bunkers bra - Surfed it a few days ago. Offshore with the SSW winds, and legit barrels on the L's and R's. Good size too. Went back the next day, and it was bigger, very stiff offshores, and nobody out. Went for a paddle and pissed my pants out there. Gave new meaning to the term "bigger than it looks".
