English (Traduzir este texto em Português): Best bet around when the winds are strong out of the east or southeast, but it can get super crowded when the winds are strong and no one has anywhere else to go.

Jetty Update! - The Jetty and the Point are at the mercy of the Army Corp of Engineers again. Last time they dredged the channel we had this sick barreling left. Now, all of that sand has gone offshore to Indicators and is choking the beach of decent swell. I think a lot of us that have still been surfing there are in denial. I was checking it a few days ago when the buoy was 3' and it was breaking at indicators. Proof is in the pudding. To all you guys who come here from far out of town and this is your go to spot. Don't risk it. Spend the extra couple of bucks and go to Pensacola Beach. It's time to seek greener pastures.

never saw it good - In the 70s, I spent many many summers at terry's cove and never saw Ala. Point worth a damn (although, granted, summer is the worst time to judge anything in the Gulf). Yeah, I saw it break, but it was small, sloppy and crumbly (there were a bunch of surfers, but no one was getting any good ones). There was one dude trying to surf way outside, but it was just a take-off then died. Once, I saw a group surfing inside the pass, on the sandbar near the east jetty....looked better than anything I've personally seen outside the west jetty.

My Two Cents.... - I've surfed surfed around the world from The South China Sea, to Ulu Watu to Mavericks, so my perspective is pretty broad. I have lived in the Gulf a couple of years here and there and I've called The Jetty and Terry's Cove my "home breaks".
The formula is really simple SE winds 15+ usually mean that the wave size is the same as the marine forcast from NOAA. A little more East is better than a little too much South. Everyone talks about tropical systems, but I'd bet most of us got our best days from spring time cold fronts coming down from Canada. As soon as the wind goes NE it's time to start watching. If the stars line-up, you CAN get head-high waves from a NE wind system- and there will never be a crowd. Also watch for high pressure of the east coast of FL. That will make a clockwise flow around the "H", SE straight into AL. The East Jetty can be great A-frames with ZERO guys out, but nobody checks it. SW swells are very rare, but can be really thick and hollow- esp. at DI pier and St. Andrews Street. Save your money and fly to Bali for the summer, but all-in-all AL people are fantastic, everyone is stoked, the water's warm and fall and spring ain't half bad.
