First you go like you are going to Grand Isle. Then you take a right at the sportsman paradise cornerstore which is after you go through Leeville. You stay on this road until you go over a bridge then you take a right.This road takes you to the beach.The first break is right thereb(barges). Another break is to the right all the way down the beach(rock jetty).
Take Hwy 308 or 1 south towards Grand Isle[308 is faster has fewer lights and cops]308 ends in Galliano so cross the draw bridge ,go left and stay on 1 until hwy 3090[I believe] or look for "Port of Fourchon" sign.Turn right and follow the road to the beach..hopefully the bridge is still up.You may need a 4X4 to get down to the jetties at Bayou LaFouche.Best break is about 50-100 yds east of the 3 sets of jetties. If it's really big,waves will break inside the channel along the jetties.Don't park too close to the water as a rising tide may claim your vehicle.

The best surf is usually at the end. Sometimes it gets too blown out and I just go to to the state park at the end of Grand Isle(pier).Its a lot cleaner at the pier. Parking is 2$. About parking on the beach at Fourchon. Make sure the tide cant come up and drag your car out to sea.

The best time you want to look for is when a front is coming and it is pulling air out of the south. You want to be there right after the front passes. We do get some hurricane ground swells, occasionally.

Fourchon and Elmer's Island beaches closed - Just wanted to let everyone know, i took a trip down to the fourchon/grand isle area last weekend (12/31/10). This was my first time surfing in Louisiana waters. was especially excited to finally try Fourchon, as i heard it has the best breaks. unfortunately, just before the little bridge you cross to get on the island, there are 2 full-time security guards in a guard booth, stopping regular joe shmos like myself from setting foot on the island. You have to have a specific reason to get on the island. They said it's been closed to public access since the oil spill and will remain closed (in their opinions) for AT LEAST another year. Fourchon is a private island. Half the island is owned by a group of lawyers, and the other half by a big corporation. They are currently in legal battle with BP to make sure they clean every drop of oil off of the beach (which is a good thing), but in the mean time, nobody will be allowed access until this happens.
So, i then drove to the road that takes you to elmer's island, and it was also closed and gaurded by 2 full-time security guards.
Naturally, being the last location left, i continued to grand isle. Turns out, grand isle is the only place in area that has beach access open to the public. That being said, the only area that is technically open is the very western tip of the island, where the jetty and inlet are located. rideable break too!! though it was big and blown out when i was there, the jetty creates a nice, flat, gradual bottom contour where waves break relatively consistently. If i had stayed a couple days till the front passed, i'm almost totally sure that this spot would have been going off with an offshore wind.
If anybody hears of Fourchon or Elmers Island opening back up, it would be great if you could let us know. Likewise, i'll do the same if i hear anything.
